by Leslie Fieger "Never, never, never give up; never give up,
never!." This is the total, famous commencement speech that he made to a university graduating class; they were his last public words… sound advice for all who aspire to achieve their dreams. Most people have, and know that they have, lots of promise. Before it is realized, however, they accept compromise. They want more but they settle for less. They have big dreams but have relegated those dreams to be mere passing fancies. They desist instead of persist. Churchill’s persistence was so well-known that he was known as the British Bulldog.
"Many of life's failures are
people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave
up." Thomas Edison’s famous persistence brought us the light bulb. Many people would have given up after 50 or so failed attempts. Edison persevered, saying that his more than one hundred failed attempts were “successful eliminations of ways that did not work”, bringing him ever closer to success. Entrepreneurs who succeed in creating success know that impediments, even outright failures, are part of the process. A child learning to walk falls, gets back up, stumbles and falls again and again before finally succeeding. Seldom does real and lasting success come to those who fail to persist in pursuing their dream. Seldom does success fail to come to those who do persist. Winners look at obstacles as opportunities to learn, to grow, to become stronger. Losers look at obstacles as ‘signs’ that they are on the wrong path or not destined to reach their ideals. No matter how many words are written about how to create success, it all comes down to the simple success formula… Purpose + Passion + Persistence = Prosperity. If you desire to create success in any area of your life, follow the formula. Define your purpose; ignite your passion; persist, persist and you will most likely achieve your goal; you will prosper. I have watched so many people quit just as they were within inches of achieving their dreams. I have also watched many others keep on keepin’ on despite all obstacles and achieve the realization of their dreams. The difference between success and failure is often one last little step past one last little barrier. If you want, truly want, to achieve success in life, the formula is plain and simple. Plain and simple to describe, but it takes strength of character to implement, to never, never, ever give up. Once you have created the ideal and set your purpose, write it down. Fire yourself up with desire and passion and then just keep on moving toward your intended destination, one step at a time flowing past, through or over obstacles like a stream passes over all to flow to the sea. That is how to really go with the flow. "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." ~ Calvin Coolidge "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." ~ Henry Ford "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe
