Thoth supposedly wrote this thesis about 6,000 years ago. These ancient teachings were amongst the many lost for many years following the destruction of the great library at Alexandria, built by Alexander the Great in 332 BCE. Since then they have continued to remain obscured and unknown to the general populace. Nevertheless, The Hermetica has had an enormous impact on the development of western civilization. Many of the great scientists, philosophers and cultural influencers were avid students of this amazing work. If there is an ancient, secret, arcane knowledge that has enabled certain individuals to achieve greater levels of success, wisdom and personal fulfillment, it is contained in The Hermetica. The following is a highly abridged look at the writings ascribed to Thoth whom the Greeks called Hermes Trismegistus.
Opening
"I asked this Supreme Being to teach me the nature of reality and the knowledge of truth. "I am the one who has always been and always will be. If your quest is made conscious, I will show you the truth." This one, this Atum answered me. "In an instant, reality was opened up to me and everything was changed before my eyes. I saw that everything was light enclosed in a joyous divine love. I saw the principles of the universe and I was grateful. I saw the infinite order that springs out of chaos through the infinite power of the light. "Now I am the messenger. I have come to speak the truth, which many will not hear, and my words will return empty to their source. Some, however, will listen and they shall know the power, the wisdom and the glory of the source."
Closing
"You are the space in which all things exist. There is no place where You are not. Everything exists within You. How can I praise and glorify You? Shall it be for the things You manifest or the things You keep hidden? Everything that occurs is You. Everything that does not occur is You. You are everything. You have revealed Yourself to me and I am as a god, eternal whilst still alive in my body. May I always be kept in Your love and knowledge. "I have been filled with a light brighter than light that does not blind me but allows me to see. I am reborn in my mind. I am a new being and have left the old behind. I no longer see with my eyes, I see with my mind. I perceive that I am all and I am in all the universe. I am that which is present in all things. With my mind, I see the Mind. I have awoken from my forgetting and I see the source of all things. "I am mind. I have seen. I have found that for which I was questing. My purpose is your purpose. My soul is Your soul. I have found peace. I sing Your song. It is my song. I sing it in silence for my words cannot speak." In between this abbreviated beginning and closing to the Hermetica, Thoth speaks of many things including creation of the universe, the cosmos, time, the creation of humanity, the potential of humanity, the soul, death, immortality and initiation into higher knowledge. He describes the Seven Principles of True Knowledge as being: 1. Consciousness - All things originate in mind. 2. Coherence - Everything is in balance; as above, so below; as within, so without. 3. Frequency - Everything is vibration. 4. Comprehensiveness - Everything is duality within unity. 5. Harmonics - Everything flows in waveforms. 6. Cause and Effect - Everything happens in accord with natural law. 7. Polarity - Everything has masculine and feminine aspects, positive and negative polarities.
